When to Call an Emergency Plumber

Arctic Air polar bear

A plumbing problem is urgent when water or sewage is spreading, the home has lost its water supply, or waiting could cause more damage. Call us if you’re dealing with:

  • A burst or badly leaking pipe.

Shut off the affected fixture or the home’s main water valve if you can reach it safely, then call before the leak reaches more flooring, drywall, or belongings.
  • Water coming through a wall, ceiling, or floor.

The visible water may be some distance from the failed pipe. We locate the source before opening more of the structure than the repair requires.
  • Signs of a slab leak.

Warm flooring, the sound of running water, unexplained meter movement, or water surfacing near the foundation may point to a pipe beneath the slab. Learn more about slab leak detection and repair.
  • No water anywhere in the home.

If the water utility hasn’t reported an outage and your neighbors still have service, the private water line, shutoff, or pressure system may need immediate attention.
  • A leaking water heater.

Water from the tank, valve, or connections can spread beyond the equipment area. If you can reach the cold-water shutoff without stepping into water or touching wet electrical equipment, close it and call. We also provide water heater repair.
  • A sewer or main-line backup.

Stop using sinks, toilets, showers, and appliances that drain water. Keep people and pets away from sewage, then call for help. Several fixtures backing up together often point to the main sewer line.
  • An overflowing toilet that won’t stop.

Close the valve behind the toilet if it works. If it’s the home’s only toilet, the valve won’t close, or wastewater is reaching the floor, call now.

Suspect a Gas Leak?

A gas odor or hissing near a gas line needs a different first call. Leave the building immediately. Don’t use electrical switches, phones, flames, vehicles, or anything else that could create a spark while you’re near the suspected leak. From a safe location, call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 or call 911 if there’s an immediate danger. Contact Arctic Air & Plumbing only after the area has been declared safe.

Emergency or Scheduled Appointment?

Some problems need attention now. Others can usually wait if you can stop the water and continue using the rest of the plumbing safely.

Call Now Can Often Be Scheduled
A burst pipe or water spreading through the home A slow drip contained at one faucet
No water in the home after a utility outage is ruled out Low pressure at one fixture
Sewage backing up through multiple fixtures One slow sink or tub drain
A water heater actively leaking onto the floor Hot water that runs out too quickly
An overflowing toilet that can’t be stopped A running toilet you can shut off at its valve

If you aren’t sure, call and describe what’s happening. We’ll help determine whether the problem needs immediate plumbing service or a scheduled appointment.

What to Do Before the Plumber Arrives

Only take steps you can complete without entering standing water, touching wet electrical equipment, or exposing yourself to sewage or gas.

  1. Stop using the affected plumbing.

Don’t run water into a clogged drain or flush a toilet that’s backing up. For a sewer backup, stop using plumbing throughout the home.
  2. Shut off the water if it’s safe.

Use the local valve for one toilet, sink, or appliance. For a major pipe leak, use the home’s main water shutoff.
  3. Stay away from electrical hazards.

Don’t touch a breaker, outlet, appliance, or electrical panel if it’s wet or if you’re standing in water. Leave the area and call 911 if there’s an immediate shock or fire risk.
  4. Keep clear of sewage.

Keep children and pets out of the area. Don’t try to mop or vacuum sewage with ordinary household equipment.
  5. Move belongings only when the area is safe.

If there’s no electrical, sewage, structural, or slip hazard, move nearby valuables away from clean water and place a container beneath a manageable drip.
  6. Call and describe the problem.

Tell us where the water is appearing, which fixtures are affected, and whether you’ve been able to stop the flow.

These steps won’t repair the plumbing, but they can reduce additional damage while help is on the way.

What Happens When You Call Arctic Air

  1. We ask what’s happening.

We’ll ask where the water or sewage is appearing, whether the flow has stopped, and whether there are any gas or electrical hazards.
  2. We give you immediate safety steps.

When appropriate, we’ll help you identify a fixture valve or the main water shutoff. Gas, fire, and electrical emergencies are directed to the proper utility or emergency service first.
  3. We dispatch an available plumber.

Our goal is to reach Lancaster-area emergency calls within 60 minutes during business hours and as quickly as availability and travel conditions allow after hours.
  4. We locate the source.

The plumber inspects the affected fixtures and piping to determine what failed and whether the problem extends beyond the visible water.
  5. You receive the repair price.

We explain the proposed work and give you the price before the approved repair begins.
  6. We repair or stabilize the problem.

When the repair can be completed during the visit, we complete it and test the plumbing. If the job needs additional parts or larger follow-up work, we stop the immediate damage and explain the next step.

Why Plumbing Problems Can’t Always Wait

Water doesn’t stay near the failed pipe. It can move beneath flooring, soak drywall, reach cabinets, and enter rooms below the leak. A small opening in a pressurized line can cause significant damage if the water continues running.

Sewage backups create a separate health concern because wastewater can carry bacteria, viruses, and other harmful organisms. Keep people and pets away from the affected area until the backup has stopped and the space can be cleaned safely.

Antelope Valley conditions add their own wear. Hard-water minerals collect inside water heaters, valves, and plumbing components. Freezing desert nights can also damage exposed or poorly insulated water lines. Those conditions don’t explain every emergency, but they’re common factors we look for in local homes.

Why Lancaster Homeowners Call Arctic Air & Plumbing

Do NOT use this company!
A picture is worth a thousand words - please read this and check out my pictures before you call this company! We have been customers of Arctic Air for years and this is the installation they performed at our home. Incomplete wiring, pieces taped in place, instead of fully removing the old unit the new swamp cooler is taped to pieces of the old unit - since this was done on our roof, we might have never known how bad the installation was but it caused a leak in our living room and we’ve been stuck in a nightmare ever since.
If we want repairs done through them then we just need to sign a form releasing them of all liability - would you sign off on a company that performed THIS work to come fix it?
• This was installed 6/6
• Arctic Air performed repairs on the new unit on 6/8 (it was flooding our side yard due to an incorrect valve placement)
• There was a leak in our living room on 6/14 and an Arctic Air tech confirmed it was their responsibility and management would follow up
To date, we are still going back and forth while things stay broken and damaged in our home. Save yourself this trouble!

Thanks for the response Arctic Air - as of 07/08/26, our request was not approved by management. If they have changed their mind, we would appreciate a commitment in writing (via email).

Called @ 4pm with a non emergency repair. My plumbing was completely repaired the very next day. Professional, friendly and a pure delight to work with. In the end I included an annual service. Josh and Jonathan are the best. Being able to trust the work and the people is everything. I understand all the 5 star reviews. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

They just keep getting better! I know it can be difficult in these times to trust companies to truly take care of you, do solid work, all at a fair price, but this company does! Had Joe come out and inspect my A/C unit. He was very thoughtful, complete and accommodating. 5 star is not enough. He gave some great recommendations without any high pressure sales and I am completely happy with adding these features to my home through the best A/C company I have worked with by far. Call them, use them and find trust again! Thank you Joe!

I have used these guys several times and they are great. Highly recommend. Today, Joseph didn't disappoint. He explained everything clearly. Great experience. He warned us about old components that need to be replaced and gave us estimates and the approximate time it takes to complete each job. For HVAC and plumbing I recommend Artic Air.

Jonathan was amazing! I live out of the state so he was in the house without super. He called, texted, and FaceTimed me during work. He took before pictures and provided plenty of videos of his work and sent them to me as things were being fixed. He was very knowledgeable and showed a deep concern for me as the customer. He displayed exceptional customer service and didn’t appear to inflate costs or try to push services that I didn’t need. He was honest and did a great job! Artic Air communicated with me and was able to get my issues resolved within 24 hours of me scheduling the appointment. I would definitely recommend Artic Air and Jonathan specifically!!

I can't say enough about Arctic air! We live way up in the mountains in Tehachapi, and they had no problem coming to our house. They are high-tech, personable, efficient and extremely professional. Both Gabriel and Lazaro were amazing, diagnosed the problem, did some troubleshooting, and took care of everything. They even had recommendations for what to do in the near future. I will not hesitate to call them again or to recommend them fully! Well done guys!!

Miguel was nice but the service itself definitely seemed like a scam. Had I known he wasn’t going to do anything I would have never agreed to pay the $99. He attempted to charge almost $1400 to replace 4 items that cost around $120 for all. He informed me that labor itself was $180. I then asked how much it would be if I aid for the parts separate and just paid the labor. Mind you this was after I paid the $99 and he sent me an invoice that totaled to $522. I don’t see how the labor went up that much when he’s servicing the same parts. This company definitely does not seem like an honest company nor is it reasonable. For that amount I could just buy a new one. I asked for the parts I needed and it literally came out to $120.44 for all 4 parts. I also did review the invoice and there’s no detailed price aside anything. I understand this is a business but this seems beyond unreasonable and a waste a money. I will not be recommending and I hope you learn to do right by your customers.

Our 24 year old wall heater was replaced Dec 22 2025 by Samuel and Miguel. They were on time, finished in shorter time than estimated, clean, professional, and provided lots of answers to our multiple questions.
The gentleman that came out the week before to diagnose the problem gave us same info as the So Cal Gas representative. But, in addition to saying we were fortunate to be alive and should keep the heater pilot off, he came back the next day with a portable heater for our use until new heater could be installed on Monday .
Photos are of clean paper placed from front door to wall heater site
